Forging New Paths - Working with the Alberta Paramedic Association.

The Ambulanceman will be hosting a ‘meet & greet’ at CENTRAL SOCIAL HALL on Thursday, December 5 from 7-9 pm. 10014 - 12 Ave SW Edmonton. You can RSVP or not. Ask us questions on Instagram @ambulanceman4 or email us ambulanceman4@gmail.com.

First off, let’s talk about why we’re doing this—and how you can help us do it right.

We’re heading to the Alberta Paramedic Association (APA) AGM on Dec 6.

Many of us have mixed feelings about the organization, we understand there’s history here.

Just for a moment, let’s hit pause on all of that.

The APA mandate is to advocate for the Paramedic Profession and frankly, Alberta Paramedics need all the advocacy they can get right now. The question is: can we combine their current efforts with our relentless push for transparency, accountability and real change?

We want to know what you think of this idea. If you’ve got concerns, questions, or stories about the APA—good, bad, or ugly—bring them to us. DM us on Instagram, email us, shout from a rooftop if that’s your style. The point is, we can’t make informed decisions without understanding the full landscape, and your input is vital.

Why Consider Supporting Us?

Trips like this take resources. If you believe in what we’re building, please consider donating to help fund our journey to Edmonton and the work we’re doing to expose EMS failures across Alberta. Your support keeps posts like our South Zone deep dive and upcoming North Zone analysis possible. Here’s the link: https://www.givesendgo.com/GC4M8.

Why Consider This Partnership?

The APA’s mission could align more with ours: EMS in Alberta is broken. Leadership is out of touch, systems like Core Flex are sinking ships, and frontline medics are paying the price.

Over the past year, we’ve become more than just a website; we’ve turned frustration into action. Our FOIP-backed investigations have certainly shone a spotlight on the cracks in the system. But let’s be real—advocacy at this scale can’t be a solo act. The APA is striving to become a louder voice for Alberta’s Paramedics. We’ve got the data. They’ve got the platform. Together, we could build a powerful alliance to fight for the profession we all care about.

The AGM and Looking Ahead

We wanted to be speakers at this year’s APA Annual General Meeting (AGM), but we didn’t make the cut. No hard feelings—it just means we’ll be showing up with questions instead. That’s where you come in.

Take a look at their speaker lineup. Who are they? What questions do we need them to answer? Drop us your ideas—we’ll make the most of this opportunity.

And here’s a thought for next year: who do you want to see standing at that podium? Let’s start planting those seeds now. This isn’t about venting frustration; it’s about shaping the conversation moving forward.

What We’re Doing (And What We’re Not)

Let’s set expectations: we’re not here to take over the APA and we’re definitely not looking to be rubber stamps. What we are looking for is collaboration.

The APA could become a more vocal critics of the failures of EMS management. We bring to the table detailed FOIP data that doesn’t just show the failures but explains why they’re happening. A partnership would mean amplifying real issues facing all of us, the APA’s advocacy position paired with our hard-hitting facts. Together, we could push for meaningful change that Alberta’s EMS system desperately needs.

This partnership has to be a two-way street, let’s see which APA goals align with our values, together we will more effectively hold AHS accountable to the real needs of Paramedics and the Patients waiting for Care in our Communities.

A Call to Action

We know this is a big leap of faith. We’re asking for your trust because you know we’re not here to play nice with the status quo. We’re here to fix what’s broken. That means forging partnerships where it makes sense and questioning them when it doesn’t.

But trust isn’t just about blind faith. We want your input—your honest thoughts, your questions, and even your criticisms. We’re not in this alone, and your voice is part of this journey.

Finally, if you believe in what we’re building, please consider supporting us through GiveSendGo. This isn’t just about keeping our site alive—it’s about funding real work that shines a light on the issues in Alberta EMS. From South Zone shutdowns to North Zone staffing crises, your support turns outrage into action.

Conclusion: Fixing EMS, Together

EMS in Alberta isn’t just broken—it’s a wreck. But it doesn’t have to stay that way. Poor leadership can be replaced. Broken systems can be rebuilt. Advocacy, data, and collective action can change the game.

By exploring a partnership with the APA, we’re aiming to be part of that change. Not followers, not figureheads—partners. And with your trust, your voices, and your support, we believe we can help right the ship.
